Jillian and I are about to become BFFS... again...

Sometimes when I have ideas I don't voice them for awhile. Because as soon as I do, I know that it's pretty much go time from there.
When I thought about running my first 5k ever in 2010 I actually thought about it for weeks before telling yall. Same with my half marathon. Maybe it's my way of procrastinating or stalling because once I put it out there it's on like donkey kong biatch.
Case in Point:
Talking about starting The Shred again. I bought mine at Target for like $9.99.
I love this workout because it is fast and effective.
If you have 30 minutes a day (I don't, I have 2 kids! but I FIND time) then you can do this workout.
It's hard guys. I'm not going to tell you it's an easy 30 minute workout, it's not.
BUT.IT.WORKS.
Here are my results from the first time I did The Shred this time last year:

I lost 6 lbs., a total of 7 inches, and went from a size 8/10 to a size 6/8.
I was VERY pleased with the results I got.
In conjunction with doing The Shred, I was eating very little carbs and adding in running as well (definitely not as much running as I do currently, though).

So these are my goals for this round of The Shred:
-Lose 10 lbs.
-A total loss of 10 inches overall.
-Tone up.
-Drop a pant size. (Get into my size 8 jeans.)

That's it. Totally doable.

I will continue to count my calories daily (I eat 1,200 a day), and keep on track with my half marathon training as well.

I was initially going to wait until I got to around 145 lbs. to start The Shred up again, but I figured Why wait? I'm totally capable of doing it right now. Just suck it up and do it you skank.
What? You don't call yourself a skank when your talking to.. uh... your...self?
I digress.

So I totally already took before pictures.
And let me just preface a few things before I show them to you.
1. I am three and a half months postpartum. So cut me some slack.
2. Why do you like to look at half naked pictures of other people? Because you realize YOU don't look that bad and it makes you feel better about yourself? Because you are WAAAY too modest to post pictures like that of yourself on the internet? Touche.
But let me say this- I am not ashamed of my body.
It has housed two beautiful children and has endured significant weight gain and weight loss.
So, while you may snicker or be appalled that I am showing you all this so quickly after giving birth, know that I am not ashamed. I am, indeed, a work in progress, but not shameful.
Ain't no shame in my game.
Hell, I posted pictures of myself in a bikini, why would I be embarrassed about this?
I'm not.
3. Please don't be hateful. It takes a lot of courage to do what I do here and put myself out there for the whole world to read about. Be respectful.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, feast your eyeballs:

Starting Stats
Weight: 157 lbs.
Waist: 32.5"
Hips: 42"
Bust: 38.5"
Arm: 10.5"
Thigh: 20.5"

I did day 1 (Level 1) of The Shred last night and I.AM.SORE.
But it's ooohhh soooo gooood.
I am able to make it through the entire workout without breaks (something I wasn't able to do the first time I did The Shred), so I know I'm off to a better start this round!
29 days to go!

Are YOU up for a Shred challenge?

PS: The Ruffles With Love giveaway ends today. Go enter if you haven't yet. I'll be choosing a winner tomorrow morning and posting another giveaway then, too, so be sure to check back bitches! You don't want to miss it!

I've been pondering for a few weeks now on if I want to give Jillian a go again...I've been strictly running lately but I can tell a difference without having much strength training mixed in there. So I suppose I'll be starting the Shred again soon...and I suppose I'll suck it up and be a big girl and take pics of myself, too, to track my progress! As much as I hate that boot camp Nazi, Jillian can definitely kick my ass into shape quicker than anyone else. Guess we'll see how it goes! Can't wait to see your progress!

I need to do the shred again. Ugh. It IS hard but it works.

My weight loss challenge at my Gym started today.....At the gym at 5am this morning for my morning work out and I am also going to join you on the 30 day shred! I have tried it before but never stuck with it the entire 30 days. THIS time is going to be different. I have a goal to get down to 140. I have 40 lbs to get there!! Thanks for being such a great motivator!!

Okay, I'm officially accepting your challenge. I've been running a ton as well, training for a marathon in July...postpartum 6 months with 2nd baby girl. I'll take my before pics and measurements tonight when I get home and hop on the Jillian "train from hell" 30 day challenge. Good luck girl- but you don't need it! (And you know it!)
Own it!

I found your blog a few weeks ago through pinterest. I want to thank you because you've inspired me beyond anything I ever thought I'd be able to do. I'm so impressed with how you look 3 months post baby. I'm almost 18 months post baby & don't look half as good as you! You're an amazing person to do it and to share! Thank you!!!!! p.s. I want to do the shred, too - but I'm struggling with back pain and have been told by my chiropractor to wait until i'm stronger for something that intense. but when I can, I will!

Holly said...

I'll do the shred along with you... I'm sure I can find it downstairs and dust it off. :)

BTW, you have the smallest little legs I've ever seen! I don't know where the 157;bs is dispersing to, but it's not your legs, lady!

I love to hate Jillian! I have many of her tapes and although they are hard, I love the burn! I call her the devil and cuss at her sometimes but I really love her for helping me lose weight and tone up! So good luck :)

I have decided to get back on the shred wagon too! As crazy as it sounds-I want to be sore! That means I did something, ha!

I am super jealous of your legs! You look great!

You look great! You continue to be my inspiration!!! :)

There should be absolutely no shame in your game whatsoever! You look fanfreakingtastic. Seriously, so many women would love to be only 157lbs 3 months postpartum. And might I add, after TWO kids that's an even harder fete.
I have a love/hate relationship with Jillian as well, she is the damn devil but she hurts so good!

Kari said...

I think you look GREAT!! You get it Momma!
I think I'll dust of the shred tape as well. You are an inspiration to a lot of people and I know I for one am very thank you!
I love how honest you are!

PS. I call myself a skank all the time when talking to myself!

You just inspired me, dammit. Now I have to bust out my dvd and have a half hour hell session during naptime. I HATE JILLIAN, but you're right, it totally works! You'll be back in no time!

I'm 7 months post partum and a fatty! I'm doing it. I've looked into the 30 day shred and I can do 30 minutes. I can. I'm not sleeping as it is so I may as well get up 30 minutes earlier and start now! I'm picking up my copy tonight!!! I'm doing my measurements and posting it on my site - shecantshutup.com - :)

hi there, I just started reading your blog a couple weeks ago. You are so inspiring and FUNNY! Thank you for sharing your struggles and successes! I have a quick question about the shred. Do you do it 30 consecutive days or do you alternate? I always alternated and never worked out on the weekends.

Aly @ Analyze This said...

I would totally love to day I'll do this with you, but making a 30 day committment scares me!!Ha!

Your before pictures are amazing! Seriously. You don't need any slack cut! You look awesome! Now you'll get it all toned up!!!

You rock!

I did the Shred and Ripped in 30 last year and went from about 145-150 to 136 just in time for my wedding. I loved how good I felt about myself!!
This summer, I gained A LOT while my husband was in a coma/hospital/therapy {up to 165!!!!}. So, this post has inspired me to get my DVDs back out and get to it. I hope I can get my old self back!
Thanks for the inspiration and you look AMAZING to have had 2 babies!

Looks like I'm going to start the Shred Challenge...I've had it and figure what better time then now to start it instead of having it sit on my nightstand staring at me everyday...lol! Good Luck!

Just discovered your blog a couple weeks ago and am loving your honesty and encouragement!
I did have a question if you happen to see this and would like to answer :)

You mentioned here that you'll be keeping to your 1200 calories. I know that is the minimum recommended intake.
Then you take away what you burn from the Shred and running. So you burn, what, a few hundred calories more?
Does that not take you below 1200 and is possibly dangerous? Or is the 1200 minimum solely regarding food and exercise doses not impact it?
Thanks!
Jordan

Mama Laughlin said...

Jordan- great question.
I have never claimed to be a fitness expert of any kind, I just do what I know my body responds to best.
I also don't "eat" my calories burned, since that is what I am trying to get away from in the first place- rewarding myself with food.
So, for ME, personally, I stick to 1,200 calories a day. No matter if I burn 200 calories working out or 600.
It's just what works best for me.
For my body to actively lose weight I have to workout (A LOT) and eat very well.
It's very difficult for me to lose weight and this is just what I have found that works for me.
Hope that helps.

I love it! Good luck on your new goals. You'll do great! I like Jiilian but have never tried anything of hers. P.S. You look fabulous for just having a baby! P.P.S. When is yor Half? I clocked on the link and notives you are using Hal Higdon for training. I used the novice one last year (tweaked it a bit) and love it! And beleive me, I had never run a day before in my life!

Nycole said...

You are amazing. I absolutely love your blog. You are hilarious, honest, and have given me so much inspiration! I just bought the shred and can't wait to start.

Megan said...

You're so brave! I'm doing a boot camp at my local gym and doing Billy Blanks with some ladies at work and although I've seen changes and want to blog about my progres, I haven't taken before photos. Maybe it's the fear of actually seeing myself at my current weight. Ugh. But you and a few other bloggers are so inspirational! I need your guts (the ballsy kind, not the kind we all want to get rid of!) :-)

Sarah said...

I just bought the 30 Day Shred a few days ago. I barely made it through the first workout and was so sore. My 11 year old son did the work out the next day on Level 1, because he's a runner but it's too cold now for it. He wants to keep in shape for baseball season and track next year. He did the entire workout while talking all the way through..."Mom, why on earth does she thing this is hard???" I was like, "Yeah, you obviously do not need to do this..." :)

From one Skank to another.... I am terrified. I have two boys and found your blog the other day on pintrest. This morning, from your blog, I motivated my fat ass to get on the scale after a very long time. I might as well be 4 months prego again. So I wrote my weight in lipstick on my mirrored closet doors (360dgrees of awesome) and left the date for next weeks weight in.
As I sat at work beating myself up I ate about 10 cookies and then me and my food baby logged it to write to you.
Your very brave and I wish I had your courage and self esteem to know that I am worth the workouts and lack of ice cream.... but I'm not there yet. Do you ever have down days?

and no I didn't spell check:)

ter@waaoms said...

I think you look great already.

I have done the shred, I lost a little bit of weight but not much. I didn't do all the levels though, because I have chronic pain, and it's amazing enough being able to do any of it. I still use it occasionally (and other exercises when i don't) but I've become bored with it. It's the same every time.

I always start the shred but never complete it, my girl friend swears by it but for some reason I always stop after a few days I think I will set a goal to start it in March seeing as my birthday is the 2nd of April and see what kind of birthday outfit I can treat myself with for completing it!! And girl I wish I looked like you three months after having my kid!!

That is awesome. I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your inspiration. I read your post yesterday and it actully inspired me and two of my coworkers to go out and buy the 30DS DVD. We all started last night so we are definitely up for the challenge! I am with you on the soreness. lol Had to pause a few times during the routine but getting ready to attempt Day 2 and am going to push through tonight. Can't wait to see the results. I did take my before pics and measurements but not sure I will ever be brave enough to post them like you. Keep up the great work and keep inspiring all of us out here.

First of all, I just want to say that I am in love with your blog!! I am struggling with weight loss as well and have been going to the gym every morning since January. I have lost 13 pounds but it is getting more and more difficult to lose. After reading about your journey, I have decided to do the Shred as well. I am going to go buy it today! Thanks so much for the inspiration..you are AWESOME!!

If you are a skank - then I am a super skank. I knew I wanted to start it again. Last night, in fact, and I hadn't even read your post. Anyway, despite knowing the results, I chickened out and put on a Yoga video. Subcontiously not want to work as hard. I am 6 months postpartum baby #3 with no time on the clock, weighing in at a buck fiddy three. So, cheers; here's to vocalizing the goal. I will begrudgingly start today to be down 7 pounds in 30 days. (Not running at the same time...yet another reason why I am a super skank and you are awesome.)

Just found your blog and I love it! My baby is now 2 months old and I'm dying to get rid of this muffin top. Would love to lose 10 pounds as well so I've committed doing the 30 day shred and got in my first day this morning. I just have a couple questions for u about how u did it last time. Do u take any rest days for the 30 days? How long do u do each level? I loved the results u got from last time u did it and am hoping I can have the same success!

Go, girly, go! I just got serious at the beginning of the year and I'm in that Biggest Loser contest at work. I've been running (worked up from the c25k to running 4-5 miles) and I just started adding the Shred in to tone up.
I've lost 16.5 lbs in 6 wks and I'm WINNING the contest! Just 5.5lbs left to lose to get back to pre-baby weight! That's pre-all3kiddos-weight!

Jill said...

You are hilarious. Ok so my 3rd baby turns 1 on March 3rd and still have 15 lbs to lose. I am FULL of excuses but after reading your blog, I SHREDded today for the first time in ages! Felt good. I'm on board for the 30 day Shred!
